Two tips for keeping your heavy construction equipment in good working order

Blog

If you own several pieces of heavy construction equipment, here are two ways that you can keep this equipment in good working order.

Make sure that the person tasked with transporting the equipment has undergone auto rigid heavy vehicle training

Large, heavy trucks with trailers are normally used to transport heavy construction equipment from one building site to another.

If you need to transport your equipment in this manner, it is extremely important to ensure that the person driving the truck has undergone auto heavy rigid vehicle training.

The reason for this is as follows: training courses of this kind teach participants the essential skills that are needed to drive this type of powerful, bulky vehicle safely.

They will be shown what to do if they encounter hazards during their road journeys, how to manoeuvre the vehicle when positioned in a tight space or on a narrow road, as well as a multitude of other important skills.

As such, a person who has taken this type of course will have the expertise that is required to get their truck (and the heavy construction equipment loaded onto that truck's trailer) safely from one place to another.

Conversely, if you allow someone who has not done this type of training to transport your equipment on their truck, there is a good chance that they may end up involved in an accident that will result in them being injured and your valuable equipment being destroyed.

Don't try to use the equipment for tasks it is not designed to handle

If you want to keep your heavy construction equipment in good working order, you should avoid using it for tasks that it is not designed to perform, as this is very likely to lead to your equipment sustaining serious damage.

For example, a bulldozer should not be used to knock down a tall, mature tree, as the upper section of the trunk could fall towards the bulldozer's cab when the lower half is struck and broken by the equipment. This could then result in the cab of the equipment being crushed.

Likewise, most excavators are not designed to lift heavy loads across long distances (they are largely used for earth moving purposes). As such, if you use your excavator to transport a large number of heavy building materials, there is a chance that the bucket or the arm of the equipment may break off.

How to Hire Heavy Construction Equipment: A Guide

If you need to hire heavy construction equipment and you do not work in the construction industry, you may be somewhat overwhelmed by the range of different machines which are on offer. When I wanted to hire a piece of heavy construction equipment so I could landscape my property, I didn't have the first idea about which type of machine was the best one for the job. Thankfully, I was able to call my brother-in-law. He works in the construction industry so he was able to give me some great advice. I decided to start this blog for people who don't have access to an expert. Enjoy!
